Practical answers nonprofits ask before getting started.
Is Chatwoot free for nonprofits?
Chatwoot is open-source, so you can self-host the Community Edition for free. On cloud there is a free Hacker plan, and paid plans start at $19 per agent per month with a 15-day free trial.
Can we self-host to reduce costs?
Yes. The Community Edition is free to self-host and gives you full control over your data, and it deploys on AWS, DigitalOcean, or any cloud provider. It does not include Captain AI, SLA policies, roles and permissions, or SSO, which are part of the paid plans.
Can we use WhatsApp in Chatwoot for donor and volunteer communication?
Yes. Connect your WhatsApp Business API number to Chatwoot and manage all donor, volunteer, and beneficiary conversations in one inbox.
Does Chatwoot support multiple languages?
Yes. You can create multilingual help centers, and Captain Copilot can help agents draft and translate replies in different languages, making it easier to serve diverse communities.
Is our donor data secure?
Chatwoot is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, with a DPA available and encryption in transit and at rest. Self-hosting gives you full control over where donor data lives.
