Captain AI updates: custom avatars, low-credit alerts and newer AI models
Captain assistants, the AI agents that answer your customers in Chatwoot, can now use your own avatar, and Chatwoot Cloud warns administrators before Captain's AI credits run out. Captain has also moved to newer OpenAI models ahead of the GPT-4 shutdown, so your assistants keep working without any changes on your side.
Custom avatars for assistants
Administrators can upload an avatar for each Captain assistant, such as your company logo. Captain's replies show that image in the chat widget, the dashboard and Slack, so the conversation looks consistent when it moves between Captain and your team. If you remove the image, replies go back to the default Captain logo.
To set an avatar, go to Captain → Settings → Basic settings for an assistant and upload an image in the Avatar section.

Alerts when credits run low
On Chatwoot Cloud, every account administrator gets an email when Captain has used more than 80% of its response credits for the current billing period. Credits are what Captain uses to generate AI replies, so running out means the AI agent stops answering until the next period. The email shows how many credits are used and how many remain, with a link to Billing. It is sent once per billing period, and the total includes purchased credits.
Newer models and a refreshed Overview
Captain runs on large language models (LLMs) from OpenAI, and OpenAI is retiring the GPT-4 series. Captain now runs on OpenAI's newest models, so its replies, summaries and call transcriptions keep working without any change on your side. We tested the new models on real Captain conversations before switching. Captain Overview also opens the refreshed dashboard for everyone. Self-hosted installations switch to the new models automatically when they upgrade.
